ATTIRE: Please dress in modest, church appropriate attire. The colour for Confirmation is red, in the past some girls have opted for a red wrist corsage or flower in the hair or for boys a red tie or shirt. The important thing is that students know the day is special and they dress as such.
Arrival 20 mins prior to ceremony:
– 1 pew will be assigned per family. Additional
guests may be seated elsewhere in the church. Confirmation Candidates and their sponsors need to be seated on the Aisle. The confirmation saint card will be placed on the pew seat along with an envelope containing the certificate. The sponsor will need to present the card at the time of Confirmation.
Collection: We will be taking up a collection and also having an offertory procession at all Confirmation Masses. Please clearly mark the envelope if you wish for a tax receipt.
Patron Saint Projects: will be displayed as a power point on the projector prior to Mass commencing.
Ceremony:
• Following the Homily the Confirmation Candidates will renew their baptismal promises, the response is “I DO”
Laying on of Hands and Anointing with Chrism
(The Confirmation candidates kneel, the congregation remains standing.)
• The Archbishop extends his hands and says the Prayer of Confirmation.
• The Sponsor presents the Candidate to the Archbishop and hands the confirmation card with the student’s name and patron saint name to Fr. Michael.
• The Sponsor stands on the left of the Candidate, placing their right hand on the Candidate’s right shoulder
• The Archbishop anoints each Candidate with Holy Chrism on the forehead, saying:
“(Students name and saint first name), be sealed with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit”
• The Candidate responds “Amen”.
• The Archbishop will extend a paternal sign of peace, saying: “Peace be with you”.
• The Candidate responds: “And with your Spirit”.
• We ask that there are NO photos taken during Mass - We have an official parish photographer who will take many pictures of the ceremony. These photos will be placed on the parish website for viewing and downloading.
After the Ceremony:
• There will be a group photo taken on the sanctuary steps, once the official photo has been taken you will be free to take your own group photo at that time.
• The Archbishop will be available for individual photos in the parish hall at a designated photo area.
• The parish, will be hosting a light reception in the parish hall immediately following Mass.
• Families are graciously asked to share a “nut free” baked good for the reception.
